| Renovations & Additions_ It’s all about solving the puzzle. I begin by helping my Clients clarify their concerns about their existing house. Is it too small or just poorly organized? Do its spaces support or frustrate your lifestyle? How would a renovation improve energy efficiency? Then, working within the parameters of the site and constraints of the budget, I explore design options which solve the house’s deficiencies. It is through this process of evaluation that I have helped many homeowners unmask the potential of their homes.

Family Room & Deck Addition. Kitchen/Breakfast Renovation.
Master Suite Renovation
|
Feeling a bit cramped in their 3-bedroom ranch and dispirited in a dark kitchen, Susan and Stuart engaged Anton Architecture to reinvent their home. The project was completed in two phases. The 2006 phase features a sleek, sunny kitchen renovation opening to a new Breakfast / Family Room addition. A new deck off the Family Room further extends the living and entertaining space. The 2009 phase creates a spacious main level Master Suite and renovates the bedrooms and bathroom in the walk-out basement. The entrance Foyer was expanded and a successful zoning variance request permitted a new front porch.

Barker Residence
Ladue, MO
| Family Room, Mudroom and Porch Addition. Kitchen/Breakfast Renovation.
|
This existing brick home in Ladue was enlarged and opened-up to improve its flow. The addition gave the owners the extra living space they desired and solved several deficiencies: - A “back” door from the driveway provides a gracious guest entrance. It actually functions as the front door since a lack of street parking on this corner lot restricts access to the front of the house. - A mudroom disguised as a Foyer transitions to the Family Room addition, to the renovated Kitchen, to the Garage and to a new covered patio. Functional storage and closet space conceals clutter. - Load-bearing walls were removed to visually open the Kitchen to the Dining Room and to the addition so the cook stays connected with family and friends. - A new corner window in the L-shaped Kitchen views the back yard. A large island with bar chairs provides a convenient gathering spot and shields the Kitchen work space from excessive traffic. The spacious Family Room addition provides a cheerful, informal setting for multiple family activities.

Herkert Residence
Olivette, MO
| Master Suite Addition.
Entrance Foyer & Front Porch Addition. Kitchen/Breakfast Renovation.
|
This 50’s ranch home suffered from a choppy floor plan and a lack of space. Removal of the fireplace and wall between the original kitchen and dining room solved the owner’s desire for an open plan conducive to entertaining. A new front porch and Master Suite addition on the front of the house gave this once nondescript ranch a transformative facelift.

Hoke Residence Olivette, MO
| Master Suite/Porch Addition.
Kitchen/Breakfast Renovation
|
A ground floor Master Suite addition to this traditional two-story home will allow the owners to retire in place. The addition has its own front door and is connected to the existing house with a small living room with a fireplace, allowing it to function initially as a mother-in-law suite.

Quirk-Williamson Residence Creve Coeur, MO
| Master Suite, Family Room & Laundry Addition.
Screen Porch and Patio Addition.
|
The addition to this modest ranch house gives it a dramatic street presence. Accented with crisp detailing, it blends comfortably with the original neighborhood. An expansive front yard allowed the addition of a Master Suite and Family Room to the front of this house. Circulation was improved by relocating the entrance and adding a Foyer. Originally constructed as a slab house, this ranch lacked storage. The addition is constructed over a new basement accessed from a new stairway off the Foyer.

| Master Suite Renovation. Entrance Foyer & Front Porch Addition
|
A simple front porch and Foyer addition to this home give it a sense of entry and curb appeal. The Foyer provides functional closet space and an elegant transition to the existing living space. French doors on each side of the entrance Foyer connect covered patios to the existing Living Room and Dining Room. The patios provide indoor-outdoor entertaining opportunities and a place for the avid-reading owners to enjoy their books.
