| New Homes New homes should reflect personality and lifestyle; they should consider the site and reinforce the neighborhood. I work closely with my Clients to achieve efficiency and flow in the layout of their homes. My design process begins with listening; it is inspired with the knowledge that thoughtful house design yields delight.

Brotherton-Fedder
Olivette, MO
| 5300 sf, 2 ½ story, five bedroom
|
This project began with the client’s desire to design something fun and unpretentious. Located in a ranch-style neighborhood, this relatively large house was designed to reinforce the existing streetscape. Their “No McMansion!” urging prompted a low-slung design which when viewed from the street appears one-story. This soft massing was achieved by building the second floor bedrooms into the roof line. The street façade is a contemporary brick veneer design which features a glass gable at the entrance. The colorful, open-plan supports their energetic lifestyle. The high-tech Kitchen has plenty of counter space for Jane and her three daughters to cook together.

This one and a half story home keeps a low eave line by locating the three second floor bedrooms in dormers. The combination of a low eave and a hip roof soften the mass of the structure. Brick and stone are blended on the street elevation to further soften the look. The children’s bedrooms have colorful, cork-backed Marmolium flooring. The ground floor Master Suite opens to a private, covered deck. A spacious screen porch adjoining the Family Room provides indoor-outdoor entertainment opportunities.

Price Residence Antonia, MO
| lake house
6500 sf, 1 story, six bedroom
|
The design process for this project began with a hike along the creek amid a 70-acre tract of forest in the rolling hills of Missouri. The owners wanted to build a house with plenty of room for visiting children and grandchildren; a home where all could gather for the holidays. We selected an area on the side of a slope near a ravine; a nearby flat would be a good spot to stable the horses. A new dam would create a 3-acre lake at the toe of the building site. Living spaces on the main floor were designed to connect to a deck and screen porch with views of the lake. Four lower level guest suites walk out onto a patio overlooking the lake. The main level Master Suite has a private screen porch just steps from the ravine. A home office with a view of the lake has its own ground floor entrance.

Reddish brick with matching mortar imparts a clean, contemporary look to this one and a half story home. Square brick columns, a decorative brick gable and glass doors emphasize the strong, simple entrance. The casual flowing floor plan is reinforced with tall ceilings and large windows. A sunny, second floor recreation space for the children is located in the steep hip roof.

The original ground contours and a utility easement which angles across the site influenced the layout of this two story spec home. The resultant saw-tooth footprint and stepped roof serve to soften its mass and add visual interest. Prairie style influences are seen in its wide overhangs, casement windows and buff color brick. Brick and stone details accent the front porch. A second floor Recreation Loft overlooks a large open living space. A main level Guest Suite adjoining the Foyer can serve as home office.

Wolfe Residence St. Louis, MO
| 3600 sf, 1 story, four bedroom

The owners decided to raze their 50’s slab house and build a new home on the same site. A pleasing composition of brick and stone provide welcoming curb appeal to their new cottage style ranch. Brick arches and a custom casement window highlight the traditional façade. A vaulted ceiling in the Family Room extends into the adjoining screen porch. Knotty-pine planks were salvaged from the original house and installed on the vaulted ceiling.
